Just noticed...

One of the URLs that pops up when you try to enter a comment is

It made me smile because I heard it in my head in this beseeching voice, coaxing me to "Add a comment - doooo..."

I dunno why I feel the need to say that except to say, I'm coming to value to comments on this blog more and more - so, add a comment - dooooo...

In other news, my clothes from Plainly Dressed.com arrived today - or rather, I should say I picked them up today. One of the fun things about being poorish and living in an apartment building is that there is no doorman, no office, no butler, no house-robot, no nothing in the building to accept packages, so you have to walk to the post office in the rain and pick them up yourself. Uncivilized! I'm really quite put out about it. :)

They arrived at the post office on Monday, but working 7 am - 7 pm, and the post office being open 9am - 5am, it was hopeless. Today being Saturday, the coffeeshop doesn't open until 10, and I was able to make it.

Still not sure what I think of my dress - I'm so tall and it turned out shorter than I expected it, and it looks a little funny. It makes me look both younger and wider than I really am, which in terms of battling my delusions of elegance is probably good. But I keep looking for a skipping rope to jump - I haven't had this particular mid-calf hemline since oh, grade 3? Whatever, it's beautifully made, and all signs point to it wearing like iron.

The apron I ordered for protecting it at the coffeeshop I rejected out of hand as soon as I half-tried it on. It's not wide enough to be really useful, and it seems more symbolic and decorative than anything else. Plus it makes me look really, really silly.

Like rolling around in a mudpuddle hooting silly.

Like a fish on a bicycle silly.

Like Weird Al "Amish Paradise" music video silly.

That one is going home to the little sisters for them to add to their dress-up costume closet.

The thing I was dying for most in this cold winter rain were my boots. I was so nervous about them coming too small I ordered a size too big, and - ta-da! They are a size too big. Well, it's better than too small, and I'll get some thick socks. But they seem watertight, which is a big improvement over the old dying Payless Pleather monsters. They also seem very sturdy. Boots, meet Amanda - Amanda, meet boots. Since this will be my sole footwear for the forseeable future, I figure we should get to know each other well. I'm looking forward to when I've broken them in. They are not too stiff, but still...I also think I'm going to buy some arch supports or something, because they are nearly as flat-footed as I am.

The rib-knit slip I ordered is thinner than I expected, but it makes sense - it's made out of that very thin thermal material, like undershirts and stuff, which magically works like a much thicker fabric. Theoretically it should help keep me warm, but on colder days I still think I'll need a long-sleeved thermal undershirt. I'm feeling kind of chilly as I type this. The flannel things I ordered were medium weight but are very snuggly.

Next time I order I'll see if I can't pay extra for another 3-5 inches on the bottom of the dress. The very strict part of myself scolds, saying this is a perfectly good length, modest, convenient, servicable, I'll never trip on it going up subway stairs, and it saves fabric. But for the love of God, the 4 inches of be-stockinged leg visible between my hem and my boot tops may tempt men into sinful thoughts, and have them cast into hellfire to burn forever more. That, and I keep having that damned urge to skip rope.

I've been working up to buying a set of broadfall pants, and now have a silly concern about them being too short in length. I'm picturing capri-style pants, with suspenders! Gahhh! ;)
