O Sisters Let's Go Down

My dear friend's sister tried to kill herself this week and really truly almost did. Being with my friend through this has been sobering. I love my friend C. so much and am so sorry she has to deal with this. C. struggles with the same illness as me and works so hard on maintaining her sanity and growing her happiness and she's an inspiration to me in a thousand ways. That she must also bear the burden of her sister's illness seems cruel. Please pray for them.

My own sister "rescued" me this week when I called her in the middle of the night, crying, having a panic attack, afraid my mind was going to run away with me again. She woke up and talked to me and loved me and helped me breathe my soul back into my body across the hundreds of miles.

As I went down in the river to pray
Studying about that good old way
And who shall wear the starry crown
Good Lord, show me the way!

O sisters let's go down,
Let's go down, come on down,
O sisters let's go down,
Down in the river to pray.

As I went down in the river to pray
Studying about that good old way
And who shall wear the robe and crown
Good Lord, show me the way!

A prayer of thanks for all six of my sisters, Jenny, Gabriela, Anna, Bethany, Emma and Elsa. I am deeply and richly blessed in them.

(of course, I am as deeply blessed in my five beloved brothers, Jonathan, Miguel, Noah, Teddy, and Nathaniel. But this is a post about sisters.)

In my philosphy there are things worth putting my life at hazard to preserve or protect. However, it saddens me to know of those for whom death seems the only respite for the travails of life. Whatever weight the prayers of a self-confessed heathen may carry with the almighty, know that I would share with those who are bereft my fierce conviction that life is God's greatest gift to his children.
Your sister,by your own testimony, is kind and sweet. By pictoral evidence she is quite pretty.
These things must run in your family.
Be well.......be kind to yourself.

Sisters are, in fact, amazing, and I love both of mine very much. I'm glad yours could rescue you . . .

. . . I miss you and think of you often! If you have the chance to snag a few days away, you should take the train up and see me . . .I'd love to have you. :-)

. . . and I didn't expect that my comment would show up as Rosemary! But it did. It's Sarah, just to clarify . . . the name-change thing sneaks up on me at odd times.
