Aw, shucks
Just a sweet happening on the train home last night. The L train was crowded as usual, all the seats taken. I was leaning against a pole, thinking happy thoughts about the seisiun I'd just attended, the new song I'd performed, the new song I wanted to learn, the daffodils I had bought, the brand new skirt I finally finished, the tidbit of Gypsy dancing I'd seen, and a dear phone-call I'd gotten inbetween. There was a middle aged man in a cap, sitting happily in the middle of the car on a big wooden endtable which was quite the worse for wear but looked very sturdy. I smiled at him and complimented his seat. He grinned all over and gestured me beside him. I sat down, and we began chatting about the ad he was reading for an electronic bible. It was a very sweet conversation in the most rudimental English, but faith and joy filled. We parted with a warm handshake and a "God bless you." And I got off the train even happier than I had stepped onto it.
