On the usefulness of doubt...

A girl on one of the few message boards I frequent these days offered these quotes on doubt, which I wanted to share...

"If we begin with certainties, we will end in doubt.
But if we begin with doubts and bear them patiently,
we may end in certainty."

Francis Bacon

"The faithfulness of doubt is often assumed by the
judgmental to be faithlessness, but it is not; it is a
prerequisite for a living faith"

Madeleine L'Engle

Here are a couple more that speak to me...

"There are two ways to slide easily through life: to believe everything or to doubt everything; both ways save us from thinking."
Alfred Korzybski

"Truth is beautiful, without doubt; but so are lies."
Ralph Waldo Emerson
